Please help us spread the word! We look forward to seeing you on May 30th.
Hello, West Philly Tool Library!
The new Executive Director here! In my first weeks, I have been soaking up information primarily as an observer. Now that I have a handle on the processes, procedures, and day-to-day of operations, it’s critical for me to hear from you—the 1,894 (to be exact) current and former West Philly Tool Library members who have made this incredible program possible.
Like any organization, the Tool Library should not be perceived as fixed—it’s a process. In my new role, I aim to make informed decisions to guide this process. To start, please take a moment to share your voice with me by completing this survey. You can be brief and stick to the check boxes and multiple choice radio buttons, or you can give me more information in the essay boxes. It’s your choice—I only ask that you be honest in your answers.
Please considering sharing this survey with others via Facebook, Twitter, or email: http://goo.gl/forms/9Zb8LLlZhz.
Thank you in advance for your time, and I look forward to what’s ahead,
The fine folks at Popular Mechanics stopped by and spoke with members, librarians, and board members to learn more about what they refer to as “The Borrowing Place.” You can find the article on the site HERE or pick up the April issue now!
Our friends at the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) will be holding a huge garage sale this Sunday from 9am to 4pm at A & C Kitchens & Bath Warehouse, 2000 Concord Road in Chester. NARI members have donated materials, parts, and tools for the sale. More info in the flyer, or in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Best of all, any unsold tools will be donated to the West Philly Tool Library!
The Tool Library will return to our normal open hours in the month of March!
Thanks to the Tool Librarians, we have newly sharpened blades and updated racks, and stay tuned: more to come as Spring approaches!
We’re reducing our open hours in February so we can divert our tool librarians time to some much needed TLC for our tools. Look for new tool purchases, new shelving, sharper blades and maybe even a warmer shop! February is normally our slowest month so we thought it best to try this experiment and see what we can get done in the daylight.
We at the Tool Library would like to wish you all a Happy Holiday and Healthy New Year!
In light of the holidays, please note that the Tool Library will be closed on the following days:
Still not sure what to get someone for the holidays? Interested in supporting your local Tool Library? Look no further!
Gift #1 – Tool Access – Gift memberships are easy to purchase online here or in person at the Library. Did you know that Lifetime Memberships will increase in price on January 1? Give the gift of Tool Access now! ($20-50 sliding scale for yearly and $200 for Lifetime until 1/1/15)
Gift #2 – Tees ($15-20) – Our new(ish) logo is printed on super comfy tee that would be a great base layer before you put on Gift #3…
Gift #3 – Sweats ($40 each) – New this season are TWO sweatshirt types to keep you warm this winter: crew necks and hoodies, both sporting the logo you find on our Tees, all printed on American Apparel. Why not grab both?!
Gift #4 –Baby Bibs ($13) – Hot off the presses from local guys, Awesome Dudes Printing, that little carpenter-in-training can show their support for the Tool Library before they are able to read at the “regular” Library (you know, the one with books.)
Gift #5 – Stocking Stuffers ($0+) – West Philly Tool Library carpenter pencils are only $1, plus we have temporary tattoos and stickers at the front desk.
Regardless of your purchases, the West Philly Tool Library, the librarians, members, and board would like to wish one and all Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year!
Resulting from the generosity of our Indiegogo donors (yes, we mean you!), here are ten of the recipients of sponsored Tool Library memberships posing with WPTL Board Members James Wright (far right) and Michael Froehlich (hiding in the back) at the Promise Zone Housing Education Workshop Event. This event provided residents with information and resources on housing related issues that connected residents to the programs and agencies that could provide assistance to resolve and answer questions regarding their housing related issues.
Speaking of Sponsored Memberships, is there someone in your life that would appreciate a year, or even a lifetime, of tool access for the holidays? How about a T-shirt? One of our new hoodies? What about a baby bib? Stop in to check out all the new swag!
*Thanks to Shanise Williams from the People’s Emergency Center for the event info. More on this at Shanise’s blog.
Did you see the Tool Library featured on Philly Factor? On this La Salle TV program, Paul Perrello interviewed our Executive Director, Peter Foreman-Murray, about the Tool Library, our history, our future, and the impact it has on the City of Philadelphia!
